EPHESUS - IZMIR AREA


E1 ISTANBUL - EPHEUS 1 DAY

E1 (Istanbul -) Ephesus (1 day)

 

Visit Ephesus ancient city. The visit will take about two hours. Lunch can be at Sirince, a former Greek village located on the nearby mountains. Afternoon visits to the museum where the statue of the Great Goddess Artemis is on display and the cathedral where according to tradition St. John the Theologian is buried.

 

This tour can be from a cruise ship from the port of Izmir or of Kusadasi, starting and ending at the pier.

 

Or, it is possible to start in Istanbul, flying to Izmir in the morning. Flight to Izmir takes an hour. Drive to Ephesus from the airport takes one hour from Izmir Adnan Menderes airport.  Late afternoon flight to Istanbul.



E2 - ISTANBUL - EPHESUS - 2 DAYS

Day 1 Morning flight to Izmir. Drive to Ephesus which is one hour away from the airport. Visit Ephesus ancient city. The visit will take about two hours. Lunch can be at Sirince, a former Greek village located on the nearby mountains. Afternoon visits to the museum where the statue of the Great Goddess Artemis is on display and the cathedral where according to tradition St. John the Theologian is buried. Overnight stay can be at a boutique hotel converted from village houses in the former Greek village Sirince or in Kusadasi.

 

Day 2 Today the visits can include the House of Mary where according to tradition Holy Virgin spent the last years of her life, and a choice of ancient sites near Ephesus such the ruins of Prienne on the mountains, with a temple dedicated to Athena and a small but attractive theatre, Didyma where there is a great temple dedicated to Apollo or Miletos, from which St. Paul departed for Jerusalem at the end of his Third Mission. Choice of sites to be visited will be decided with the client. Claros, where there is a temple dedicated to Apollo, Artemis and Leto can be visited on the way to the airport. This temple has a rare feature: Divination chambers.  Late afternoon flight to Istanbul.  

 



E3 ISTANBUL - PERGAMOM - EPHESOS-2 DAYS

E3 Istanbul - Pergamum – Ephesus (2 days)

 

Day 1 Morning flight to Izmir. Drive to Pergamum which is two and a half hours away. Visit  the Acropolis of Pergamum where the Trajan Temple and the Hellenistic Theatre and the healing centre Aesclepion. Two hours drive to Izmir. Overnight in Izmir  

 

Day 2 Drive to Ephesus which is one hour away from Izmir. Visit Ephesus ancient city. The visit will take about two hours. Lunch can be at Sirince, a former Greek village located on the nearby mountains. Afternoon visits to the museum where the statue of the Great Goddess Artemis is on display and the cathedral where according to tradition St. John the Theologian is buried. Late afternoon flight to Istanbul.

 



E4 - ISTANBUL - SARDES - EPHESUS-2 DAYS

Day 1 Morning flight to Izmir. Drive to Sardis which is two hours away. Visit  the remains of the Artemis Temple, one of the largest temples ever attempted in the ancient world and the renovated third century synagogue and the facade of the Roman paleastra. Hour and a half drive to Izmir. Overnight in Izmir.  

 

Day 2 Drive to Ephesus which is one hour away from Izmir. Visit Ephesus ancient city. The visit will take about two hours. Lunch can be at Sirince, a former Greek village located on the nearby mountains. Afternoon visits to the museum where the statue of the Great Goddess Artemis is on display and the cathedral where according to tradition St. John the Theologian is buried. Late afternoon flight to Istanbul.

 



E5 SEVEN CHURCHES - 3 DAYS

E5  “Seven Churches of Revelation” - Istanbul – Izmir (Smyrna) Pergamum – Thyatira - Sardes – Philadelphia - Ephesus (3 days)

 Day 1 Morning flight to Izmir. Drive to Pergamum which is two and a half hours away. Visit  the Acropolis of Pergamum where the Trajan Temple and the Hellenistic Theatre and the healing centre Aesclepion. Drive to Thyatira. Visit the remains of a Roman street and basilica. Overnight in Izmir.

 

Day 2 Two hours drive to Sardis which is two hours away. Visit the remains of the Artemis Temple, one of the largest temples ever attempted in the ancient Greco – Roman world and the renovated third century synagogue and the facade of the Roman paleastra. Half an hour drive to Philadelphia. Visit the remains of a fourth century Byzantine Church. Drive to Loadicea visit the newly excavated main street and the stadium and the water distribution system. Short ride to the white terraces of Pamukkale. Visit Hierapolis and the white terraces. Overnight in Pamukkale.   

 

Day 3 Drive to Ephesus which is one two and half hours away from Pamukkale. Visit Ephesus ancient city, House of Mary and the cathedral where according to tradition St. John the Theologian is buried. Late afternoon flight to Istanbul.
